For the first time in quite a while, something from the catwalks has caught my attention so completely that I can't tear my attention away from it. It has captured my imagination, disturbed my dreams and left me breathless, wanting it so desperately that a bank loan is looking more and more like a possibility. I feel almost un-hinged discussing it in such an obsessive manner.
So what it is giving me this almost embarrassingly girlish crush? Jil Sander by Raf Simons Spring Summer 2011, that's what.
Simplistic beauty is the only phrase which fully describes, and gives due credit, to the collection. An explosion of colour on a base of perfect symmetry; fashion forward yet still wearable; minimalistic with a contemporary charm...swoon!
Having always been fond of getting a little leg out at most opportunities (you gotta work with what you've been given, non?) I was taken aback with my wanton desire for the voluminous skirt and white tee combos. Turning the pages of the February issue of Harper's Bazaar I was all-consumed with pure lust for the delicious swathes of silk in a truly magnificent emerald. I could just envisage the chic-er imaginary version of me swishing around town, over-sized sunglasses perched on nose, hair pulled into a chi-chi messy bun. Granted, I never 'swish' anywhere, and grimy old London isn't always the best place for full-length silk, but who cares? A girl can but dream.
Congratulations Raf Simons...you are a legend.
